I almost always keep stocks of Ramen at my house but I rarely flavor it according to package instructions.
Here are my top 5 favorite ways to spice up your Ramen, budget baker style 😎
1) Ramen Egg Drop Soup
Chicken flavored Ramen + Egg + Chives + Sesame oil (optional)
Cook Ramen as per instructions. Simmer noodles, drop egg in the center, add chopped chives and a drizzle of sesame oil. Serve hot.
2) Spicy Ramen
Chili Ramen + Sriracha/ Hot sauce + Sesame seeds + Vienna Sausages (optional)
Boil noodles in plain water without the flavor pack. Drain most of the liquid, leaving about 1/4 cup liquid in the pan. Add chili flavor pack, sriracha or hot sauce, chopped vienna sausages and cook until liquid evaporates. Add sesame seeds and serve!
3) Ramen Carbonara
Vegetable/Plain Ramen + Bacon + Butter + 1 egg + Cheese
Boil noodles without flavor pack in plain water. While it is boiling, render bacon until crispy in another saucepan. Drain noodles, reserving 1/4 cup water and add to bacon pan. Add butter or olive oil if noodles begin sticking and saute with bacon for about 30 seconds. Remove from heat and add egg plus 1/4 cup grated cheese. Stir quickly, making sure not to scramble egg. Plate and enjoy!
4) Ramen Mac and Cheese
Chicken Ramen + Cheese + Milk + Flour + Garlic powder
Boil noodles without flavor pack until tender. Drain and reserve 1/4 liquid. Add 1/4 cup milk, 2 tbsp flour, 1/2 cup grated cheese and 1 tsp garlic powder. Mix until liquid thickens and cheese is melted.
*Optional- Add toasted breadcrumbs and chopped parsley on top dish when serving.
5) Peanut Chicken Ramen
Boil noodles with flavor packet until cooked. Drain and reserve 1/3 cup of liquid. In a separate bowl, whisk 2 tbsp (up to 1/4 cup depending on taste) of peanut butter, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp brown sugar and 1 tbsp water. Add to noodles with 1 cup of shredded chicken. Add extra water to thin out, if necessary. Top with chopped chives and serve!
